Our History

Kerikeri Tennis & Pickleball Club has a proud legacy dating back to its establishment in 1930. Over the decades, it has grown from a small local tennis club into a thriving hub for both tennis and pickleball, serving hundreds of members from across the Bay of Islands and beyond.

The Club was officially inaugurated in December 1930 and became an Incorporated Society in 1934. For many years, it operated from various locations (including the original Riverview School)  before relocating in 1990 to the Kerikeri Club/RSA area. In 2006 the Club moved to its current home at the Bay Sports complex on Harmony Way in Waipapa.

In 2016, Pickleball was trialled at the Club and quickly gained popularity. By 2017, the Club constitution was updated to include other racquet sports, officially welcoming Pickleball. Permanent court markings and dedicated equipment followed, with growing numbers of Pickleball-only members joining. By 2020, one tennis court was fully converted for Pickleball use, and the sport became a core part of the Club’s offering.

In 2023, with both tennis and Pickleball flourishing, the Club undertook a major upgrade—resurfacing two of the original courts to expand capacity. One became a new tennis hard court, and the other was transformed into four additional Pickleball courts. Today, the Club proudly offers eight tennis courts (five with lights) and eight Pickleball courts (four with lights), supporting a vibrant and inclusive community.

Reflecting this evolution and the growing popularity of both sports, the Club officially changed its name in 2025 to Kerikeri Tennis & Pickleball Club Inc. With a membership of over 400, the Club continues to foster active lifestyles, connection, and fun on and off the court.
