  • Concern around the number of ‘current members’ who have not paid. Reuben to send an email to these unpaid members.
  • Betty Maitland has confirmed that she will take over the role of membership secretary on the committee when Reuben departs in December.
  • Need to migrate to Club Spark this month, committee decided this is the best option given Promato will be redundant 1 December. Club Spark is paid for by Tennis NZ and used extensively by tennis clubs across the country. Barb and Hayden to organise the transition to Club Spark with Reuben…Betty to be involved also.
  • We now have invoicing capability at Kiwicut to get keys cut for members.

Maintenance Report- John McKinney

  • The tennis courts have been sprayed over the last month for mould.
  • Barb to check with electrician when the light can be replaced on court 1. At the same time will get the electrician to check the control box between courts 4 and 5. An incident was reported on Monday night. A loud noise, smoke and a burning smell emanated from the said control box. The committee turned on the lights to test and everything appeared to work fine, no smoke or burning smell, although the control box between courts 4 and 5 appeared noisier than others.
  • Barb to order new bulb for court 6.

Pickle Ball ReportWayne Beattie

Well, pickle ball is taking the world by storm. Julian Faulls from plexpave said to me that pickle ball and basketball are the two fastest growing sports. We have had another 6 new members since the AGM. Another second time player is keen to join. I know of two others at Quail Ridge Country Club also keen.

We have been having record numbers attending club mornings, the most being 34. With a limit of 16 players on court; 18 sitting out, several ended going home early. There have been suggestions how we can reorganise the way we currently operate; this will not be a problem with extra courts. The extra day is a possibility, though most do not want to play morning and evening (Wed). Time slot bookings I believe would be more disruptive than beneficial. We have several that arrive late, a time slot would have to be after 11am. The more competitive players want to play 2 ½ plus hours. Consensus is, leave as is, most like the social side a club day has to offer.

Tuesday night indoor play has ended along with daylight saving. These events have been extremely well attended, a big thank you to Rachel for her organising. I have taken over running Wednesday evening, first one last week was a lot of fun and more competitive than I was expecting.

I am running a club tournament, 1st Saturday of each month, first two were a lot of fun. Still some fine tuning to be done in the mix to keep competitive players interested as well as encourage newer players and introduce them to tournament style of play.

Rotorua Tournament last month, unfortunately no medal for Kerikeri. Players enjoyed the tournament and said they played in some good combinations.

Our monthly tournament (September) will be replaced by one Clare has organized with Len from Whangarei (15th). This was to be played in Kerikeri, but due to possible bad weather, transferred to Tikipunga indoor courts. The hosts put on a great spread, and the tournament ended in a draw.

Agenda

Resurfacing and use of courts 5 and 6.

Motion – Courts 5 and 6 will be resurfaced in PLEXIPAVE. Court 5 will be marked out as a tennis court only. Court 6 will be marked out as 4 pickleball courts only.

Moved   Andrew                    Seconded Hayden

In Favour:

Wayne, Barbara, John, Reuben, Keith, Hayden, Andrew

Not present but informed Andrew of position:

  • Gail in favour
  • Carl not in favour, preference two grass courts.

PASSED

  • Wayne did look into PLEXICUSION as an alternative to PLEXIPAVE but they came in at 55K per court and are considered cost prohibitive. Was also informed that the bounce on PLEXICUSHION is not as good for pickleball.
  • We were originally told by PLEXIPAVE that the courts could be done in March 2023. However, there may be a window to get them done in December 2022. That being the case we will need to organise a working bee to get the existing surface uplifted. This is a watching brief and members will be updated when we get news from PLEXIPAVE.

Date of Next Meeting – December 6th

Meeting Closed at  9:00 pm
